The Željeznice Republike Srpske (ŽRS) is the railway operator of the Republika Srpska Federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alongside it, the country also has Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine (ŽFBH) of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ŽRS currently operates only a minimal regional train service on its 418 km rail network.

Validity FIP Reduced Ticket

Railway companies typically offer a discount with FIP, also known as FIP50 or FIP75. The discount is usually 50 %, sometimes 75 %. To find out what discount applies to you, first select the issuer of your FIP Card. You can find an overview of all discounts in the FIP Application.

FIP Coupons and FIP 50 / FIP 75 Tickets are valid on ŽRS services. For cross-border journeys (currently not offered), either a through FIP 50 / FIP 75 Ticket or FIP Coupons from both countries would be required. For journeys across the entity border (also currently not available), either a through FIP 50 / FIP 75 Ticket or an FIP Coupon of ŽRS in combination with an FIP 50 / FIP 75 Ticket from the entity border would be required.

Ticket offices of the ŽRS are only found at the most important stations.

At the ŽRS ticket office, FIP 50 tickets can be purchased for journeys on trains operated by the ŽRS within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Unofficial Information

It is reasonable to assume that the ticket offices selling Interrail tickets also offer FIP tickets. These offices are listed on the ŽRS website.

Additional Information

On the Train

We do not know whether FIP tickets can be purchased on the train. Since many stations do not have a ticket office, however, it is reasonable to assume that at least regular tickets are sold on the train.

Discounts

Children up to and including 3 years travel free of charge if they do not require an extra seat. Children under 12 years receive a 50% discount on the regular fare regardless of FIP.1 An overview of all discounts outside FIP is available on the ŽRS Website.

Personal Tip

For travellers crossing several Balkan countries, the Balkan Flexipass may be worthwhile. It allows unlimited travel on the rail networks of:

Rail Replacement Services

FIP discounts apply on rail replacement buses if they replace a train on which FIP would have been valid.

Personal Tip

The ŽRS operates only very few trains within the Republika Srpska entity. Banja Luka, the capital of the Federation, is connected both to the border with Croatia and to the entity border. Cross-border and inter-entity trains are currently not offered, and the timetable consists of one or two trains per day on each route. The rolling stock is also somewhat old.
